High-school freshman Boady is ready to move on. Then Thomas moves in across the road, and Boady's life changes. Coming to know Thomas' black family as they settle into the community forces Boady to rethink his understanding of the world. Secrets begin to unfold, but the biggest secret of all is the disappearance of Lida Poe, an African-American woman.
