The replacement of the CDOT Region 1 Twin Bridge over Smith Road and Union Pacific Rail Road (UPRR) on I-70 provided an excellent opportunity for the performance evaluation of GRS (geosynthetically reinforced soils) abutment. The performance of the GRS abutment was measured using SAA (shape accel array) for lateral deformation and vertical settlement measurement, Geokon 4810 for horizontal earth pressure, 4800 for vertical earth pressure, 4420 for...

The purpose of this report is to document Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques on IBRD (Innovative Bridge Research and Development) project 102470 for the construction of Bridge N-16-Q on State Highway 69 over Turkey Creek. The project demonstrated faster pier erection by utilizing precast pier caps to eliminate concrete cure time from the critical path in the construction schedule.

This study is the evaluation of two thin bonded epoxy overlays. These two products were compared on the basis of physical properties, including mean texture depth, surface friction, bond strength, ability to stop chloride intrusion, and anti-icing properties, as well as traffic safety and cost. Both overlays worked as intended when they were initially applied on the bridge decks. Mean texture depth and friction testing have shown that they both provide...

Corrosion resistant alloys and non-metallic coating have been tested by exposure to Glenwood Springs geothermal water in a test loop constructed for the purpose adjacent to the Glenwood Springs geothermal well. Several alloys were tested. None of the materials showed any measurable degradation during the test. However, it is recommended that the results be applied with caution; several factors suggest that the data from these tests might be overly...

Description
In recent years, prestressed concrete bridges have dominated the bridge type selection processes in Colorado. This can be attributed to a lack of steel mills combined with a strong presence of precast fabricators in the region. In addition, a lack of readily available economical and innovative procedures to design and construct steel bridges has hindered the industry in certain areas such as Colorado. During this research it was identified that designing...

Description
This report summarizes the analytical studies on the seismic performance of typical Colorado concrete bridges, particularly those with curved and skewed configurations. A set of bridge models with different geometric configurations derived from. a prototype bridge selected in Denver area were studied. Some discussions about the connection modeling are carried out in terms of the interior bent support. For the displacement-based and force-based designs,...
