520 | |a The Colorado General Assembly passed House Bill 2013-1195, requiring the Colorado Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice to report on the following on or before January 1, 2014: The number of cases prosecuted and convicted of C.R.S. 18-3-501 (Trafficking in Adults), C.R.S. 18-3-502 (Trafficking in Children), and C.R.S. 18-3-503 (Coercion of Involuntary Servitude) The number of cases prosecuted and convicted for attempts, solicitations, and conspiracies to commit the offenses above; The circumstances involved in these cases, including any circumstances that seem consistently present in multiple cases; The sentence imposed for each conviction, including consideration of the appropriateness of each sentence; and Any other information that the Commission deems relevant concerning the implementation of these statutes since their enactment in 2006. Data were obtained from the Colorado Judicial Branch for cases filed between July 1, 2006 and August 15, 2013. In addition, police reports, arrest affidavits or grand jury indictments were reviewed for a majority of the cases. Finally, a literature review was conducted to identify current trends and best practices in law enforcement, prosecution and public policy related to the crime of human trafficking. | ||
